about

"There’s an internal contradiction in the song “4 am”. On the surface it’s bright and jangly, but this facade is betrayed by Hamilton’s grim words of loneliness. In fact, the singer-songwriter at times sounds more like punk poet Patti Smith than an indie folk balladeer. " - Ride The Tempo

lyrics

It’s 4am
This bed is cold
This year is over
Don’t know if I made it or not.

Wash my face, go to work
I feel so old.
Don’t want to hover
Are you my lover still?

Outside the rain is rushing down
Inside the rain is wearing through
It’s 4am I’m feeling blue
But from this bed at 4am, there aint a lot that you can do.

I watch the clock
It ticks and tocks
We’re losing hours
In ivory towers still

Outside the rain is rushing down
Inside the rain is wearing through
I watch the clock while feeling blue
But from this ivory tower, there aint a lot I want to do.

It’s 4am.
This bed is cold.
This year is over.
Don’t know if we made it or not.
